Guide
Renting battery storage is straightforward, but the quotes are not comparable unless you know which questions to ask. Here are the ones that matter.
Very few sites know their real load profile before they are running. Equipment schedules overstate, shift patterns change, and the weather does what it wants. Renting lets you prove the sizing on the actual job before committing capital.
It also matches how temporary power is procured. A construction compound needs power for the length of the build. A festival needs it for ten days. A film unit needs it for a location block. Those are rental shapes.
A serious rental package covers sizing and a written runtime estimate before you commit, delivery and connection through the onboard transfer switch, remote monitoring of state of charge and system health for the whole hire, and pack swap support so a unit in the field is never waiting on a charge.
Options worth asking about: the solar upgrade kit for long off-grid deployments, stadium lighting kits, and security camera kits that run off the same pack.
| Line item | Generator on hire | Battery on rental |
|---|---|---|
| Hire rate | Yes | Yes |
| Fuel | Metered, priced daily, delivered | None |
| Refuelling labour and site access | Yes | None |
| Servicing during hire | Scheduled oil and filter changes | None |
| Spill containment and compliance | Required | Not applicable |
| Noise mitigation or permits | Often required | Not applicable |
| Out-of-hours running restrictions | Common | None |
Rent when the requirement is project-shaped, when the load profile is not yet proven, when the asset would sit idle between jobs, or when the cost sits better in operating expenditure than capital.
Buy when the same load recurs across the year, when you want the asset on your balance sheet, or when you are a rental company building a fleet of your own — in which case talk to us about fleet supply instead.
Questions answered
Rental pricing depends on the model, hire length and options. Longer project hires price lower per week. Because there is no fuel line, the rental figure is close to your total running cost — which is not true of a generator quote.
Your largest simultaneous load in kW, your total energy use over the run in kWh, and the voltage and phase you need. A list of equipment and operating hours is enough if you do not have those figures.
Rent for project-shaped requirements and unproven load profiles. Buy when the same load recurs all year or when you are building a rental fleet of your own.
